A: Tanzania sells most of its raw cashew through regulated auctions; 430,961 tonnes had been sold by late December 2025 [3]. An Indian buyer bids through, or buys from, a licensed exporter. Tanzania also wants 60% of its crop processed locally by 2030 and offers free land at the Maranje industrial park in Mtwara, so processing in Tanzania is the longer-term route [2]. We shortlist licensed exporters, check grading (outturn, nut count, moisture) and documents, and agree the payment route. Q: Can East African pulses enter India duty-free in 2026–27? A: Yes for tur (pigeon peas) and urad: India allows their import under the Free category, with no quantity cap and no duty, until 31 March 2027 [4,5]. Yellow peas carry a 30% duty over the same period [34]. Every consignment still needs an Indian plant-quarantine import permit and FSSAI clearance [30]. Q: Which approvals does an Indian seed or crop-protection company need to sell in Kenya? A: Crop-protection products register with Kenya’s Pest Control Products Board, which expects registration in the country of origin first; in 2025 it withdrew 77 products and restricted 202 [19]. New seed varieties go through KEPHIS national performance trials, normally two seasons [20]. Each shipment needs a KEBS pre-export conformity certificate. Tanzania (TPHPA, TBS) and Uganda (MAAIF, UNBS) run parallel gates, and Tanzania charges a 15% CIF penalty on goods that arrive without a certificate [21,22]. Q: Can Indian and East African companies settle trade in rupees or shillings? A: Kenyan banks have opened Special Rupee Vostro Accounts with Indian banks, and India and Kenya discussed a local-currency settlement mechanism at their April 2026 Joint Trade Committee [23]. India and Tanzania put local-currency settlement on their May 2026 agenda [24]. Availability varies by bank, so we confirm the route with both banks before the first shipment. Q: Does the EU deforestation regulation affect East African coffee and cocoa traded through India? A: Yes, where the goods reach the EU. The regulation applies from 30 December 2026 for large and medium operators and 30 June 2027 for micro and small ones, and covers coffee, cocoa, cattle, palm oil, rubber, soy and wood [29]. A lot processed in India and re-exported to Europe needs plot-level geolocation and a due-diligence statement. Lots sold only in India are outside the rule, though buyers increasingly ask for the same traceability. Q: Which East African countries get duty-free access to India? A: India’s Duty Free Tariff Preference scheme gives least-developed countries duty-free access on 98.2% of tariff lines, with a certificate of origin that meets the scheme’s rules [28]. In East Africa that covers least-developed countries such as Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Ethiopia. Kenya is not a least-developed country, so Kenyan goods pay India’s normal duties unless a product window applies, such as tur and urad until 31 March 2027. Q: Does DT Alpha trade commodities or hold funds? A: No. We map markets, match counterparties, diligence them on the ground and keep the trade evidence. We do not take title to goods, act as a commodity broker or hold buyer or seller money. Contracts and payments stay between the two companies and their banks. Q: How does an engagement start, and how long does it take? A: With a 30-minute call, then TC0, a fixed-scope 10-business-day corridor trade map for one product and up to three countries. It is scoped and priced from the ground up for your product and markets, and you can stop after it with the map and shortlist in hand. ### Sources (agri trade corridor) 1.
